February Meeting Recap
We had a great KP Team Meeting at The Front of the Pack Bike Shop in Palo Alto on Wednesday night at 6:30PM. Guest speaker Brad Kearns gave us a great talk on a variety of topics, including information on the Auburn Triathlons. Brad is the author of a few books, most recently the book he wrote about Lance Armstrong, called, "How Lance Does it". He also wrote a book called "Breakthrough Triathlon Training" and "Can you make a living doing that". Brad is now owner of BradVentures and is the founder and Race Director for the Auburn Triathlons. Brad spoke about many of his training philosophies, especially the importance of rest and recovery after prolonged stress to the body.
Brad has been involved in the sport of triathlon since the mid-eighties and went to UCSB at the same time as Pete and Shari. The Kains and Brad have been friends for over 20 years! Brad and Pete traveled to many races together in the late 80's and early 90's. Brad was a pioneer in the sport of triathlon, being one of the first athletes to ever use the now standard "Aero-Bars". Brad used one of the first prototype models that Scott USA had come up with back in 1987. He won the Desert Princess Duathlon that year, using the aero bars, over a stacked field of athletes. By 1989 Greg Lemond used these same aero-bars to win the Tour De France by a mere :07 seconds! Brad is now a father of two and living the good life up in Auburn. He is one of the funniest race announcers out on the Triathlon circuit! Brad will gladly sign a copy of one of his books at our Auburn Training Weekend April 20-21st, if anyone missed out on Wednesday.
We also named our KP Athletes Of the Month for January/February 2008. The Female Athlete of the Month went to Shelby Golan! Shelby is a mere 17 years old, but already showing signs that she will be a force on the triathlon circuit. Shelby is always smiling and is not afraid to work hard! She has an incredible future in the sport! Congrats Shelby!
Our Male KP Athlete of the Month went to Nelson Hom! Nelson is in the middle of training for his first Ironman in Arizona in April. Nelson is at most workouts and is always very encouraging to everyone out there! He is the sleeper to impress everyone when he goes to Arizona in April. Congrats Nelson!
KP Athlete of the Month winners receive lots of great Schwag from the many KP sponsors, like CytoSport, Runner's Factory, Front of the Pack, to name a few. (Punch card members are not eligible for Athlete of the Month honors).
