Moon Race
USA Triathlon West Coast Regional Championship Race
On Saturday we had a good group racing down in Bakersfield at the Bakersfield Triathlon, the USA Triathlon West Coast Regional Championship race. The winners of each age division were given a slot to next years 2008 ITU World Championship race in Vancouver, BC.

The race was an Olympic Distance, 1.5K swim, 40K bike, but had a longer 15K run. The run is one of the toughest runs out there, with one hill at mile 6 called "Bastard Hill" and another one at mile 7 called "Hang Glider" hill. These are very appropriate names for these two hills. It is a very rough and tough run, but one you don't forget!
May 19th The KP Team had a great showing at Bakersfield! "It was like racing on the Moon" was heard more than once.
Here are the results:
1st Overall/1st 40-44 - Coach Kain (recap of race to follow) - gets
Worlds
spot
4th Woman Overall/1st Age Group 40-44 - Coach Sharoo Kain - gets Worlds
spot
2nd Age Group 25-29 - Ryan Reed - (fastest run of the day, 1:01) - will
have to get a roll down spot if #1 in Age doesn't take it.
3rd Age Group 45-49 - Tony Jager - will have to wait to get a roll down
spot if #1 and #2 in Age don't take it.
3rd Age Group 35-39 - Jacco Van der Kooij - "That was like an Xterra"
3rd Age Group 50-55 - Ed Gaible - "Great run"
12th Age Group 45-49 - Jorge Breton
Great job to all who raced Bakersfield! You now know what its like racing on the Moon! :)
