Tahoe Winter Wonderland Training Weekend

The Tahoe Winter Wonderland Training Weekend turned out to be a fun time for all! We had a great group of 21 eager snow maniacs on our Snowshoe Adventure on Saturday, 1/22/05. We climbed through the back country, up a ridge to a peak at about 9,500 feet. Our fearless leader, Matt Evans, assured me the avalanche danger was at a minimum. This was very good news to hear, as one group went down into the bowl below with Coach Sharoo, as Matt and I led a group along the ridge. We were able to look down on the group below and were in a good position to set off an avalanche if the conditions weren't so good!

We made it to the top and had an incredible view of the entire Tahoe basin on both the California and Nevada sides. The day was spectacular! We then proceeded to strip down and do a group pose down with an incredible view! (Check the photo's) A few push ups for the group and we made our way back down the mountain. For those who have never snowshoed, you should try it sometime! It is a lot of fun!

That night we went out in Truckee and had a great Team dinner at Pazo's. We went back to the chalet for some good Jenga matches! Coach Pete, the self proclaimed, "King of Jenga", went down hard to the delite of all those in attendance! Day two was back on the snow with X-Country ski's this time. We went to Royal Gorge, on Donner Summit, where the X-Country skiing is the best! Over 300 K of trails to choose from. The learning curve on the skate ski's is a bit tougher than the snowshoe's, but all participants had a great time and awesome workout! We made it to the ski hut for some snacks, then back out for one last trip around before heading for home! Jorge and Courtney were awesome first time ski participants! Derek had the best (and most) crashes I can remember! Good thing he plays hockey! All in all a great Winter Wonderland Weekend for all!!

Can't wait to do it again next year! Next Kain Destination, Santa Barbara!! Thanks to all who came and made the Tahoe trip a memorable one!
