PRs Abound for KP!
Lake San Antonio, Monterey County, CA
Kain Performance Triathlon Team Rocks the Wildflower & Napa Triathlons!!!
On a picture perfect weekend down at Lake San Antonio, the Kain Performance Multi-Sport Team conquered the Wildflower Triathlon courses in a BIG way! The racing started on Saturday, May 6th, with the Long Course ½ Ironman Triathlon. The KP Team was well represented during the entire weekend with 50 participants in both the Long course and Olympic distance events.
The KP Team had so many personal records (PR’s) that even Head Coach Pete Kain was overheard saying “did they shorten the course”. Conditions for racing were ideal, as the weather didn’t get too hot, or stay to cold. On a course that has been notoriously HOT, the day stayed pretty mild, with afternoon temperatures hitting the mid 80’s. The KainIron Team were competing in the Wildflower ½ Ironman Triathlon as a tune up event for the Coeur d’Alene Ironman event on June 25th, 2006. Many KainIron Team members set personal records on the tough Wildflower Long Course event. The team as a whole did incredible, WINNING the Long Course Team Club competition over 56 other Club teams! Way to go KP Team!!!

Napa Half Ironman – Saturday, May 6th
It was also a picture perfect day up in Napa where Kain was also well represented with 4 ladies in the W45-49 division and one guy in the M25-29 division ~ lucky Wes! Water temp was a very nice 70 degrees, air temp in the low 70’s, and the venue was perfect! Pretty low key…race packet pick-up the morning of the race, self-seeding swim waves and aid stations were fully stocked too! Here are the highlights:
o Wes Meyer – 1st place (M25-59) – PR’d and took 1 minute per mile off his run time from Oceanside. (Wasn’t with KP then!)
o Beth Stern – 3rd place W45-49 and a PR! (Can you say, PODIUM!!!)
o Lori Bradford – 5th place W45-49 and a PR! Took 10 minutes off her swim time! WOW!
o Judy DeSherlia – 6th place W45-49, however timing chip did not record properly! No worries though, PR’d the swim (34 & change) & bike (3:23)!
o Linda Rapposelli (W45-49) – Made it to the start line despite ongoing ankle injury. Had a great swim & bike, and followed Coach Pete’s advice to not do the run. Save herself for IMCDA!
WF Olympic – Sunday, May 7th
Another epic day. A little warmer, but Kain Performance was well represented once again.
Highlights:
o Kim Hammett - 2nd place (W40-44), PR by 3 min (2:30), 11th female overall! Awesome run!
o Tami Richardson - 8th place / 256 (W30-34), PR by 33 minutes! 2:35 with the third fastest bike overall!
o Kim Potter - 8th place / 179 (W35-39) - PR by 14 minutes - 2:47 – Best race finish ever! Incredible!
o Ed Grant – 3rd place (M65-69) (Nice work Ed, PODIUM!)
o Gregg Trent - 4th place (M45-49) - “I went into this race way under-trained after 2 years off, and with low-expectations. After putting on the Kain Team apparel, I was pleasantly surprised with how fun the race was primarily due to the awesome support I received from all the Kain Team members and followers out on the course. I had a few "rough" moments out on the run only to be pumped up by the "GO KAIN!" cheers I received out there. I finished better than expected…Thanks for the support!” ~ Dr. “T”
o Reed Nelson – PR by 15 minutes! This guy is no fluke…
o Tony Benassi - 2:41 – PR by 18 minutes! Did it by running on his toes!
o Bryan Taylor – PR by 12 minutes! Awesome!
o Rob DiNapoli – PR by 10 minutes! (23/131 M45-49) Come a long way in one year!!!
Overall, I’d have to say this is the most incredible performance a KP Team has done to date! You all looked great out there! The Team camaraderie is the BEST out there and it shows! It was a pleasure to be out on the course watching all the great performances! You all represent KP so well, it is a pleasure working with everyone! Congratulations to everyone who raced, you all ROCK! Thanks for being a part of the KP Team! Rest up, as the year has just begun!
