Team Testimonals
We Swear They Said It!

Who do I Train With and Why?
"We have an awesome team very enthusiastic, dedicated to performance, and very supportive. I enjoy the solitude of a solo run, and also just riding with a girlfriend or two, but I also love the group environment. The group environment pushes you just that little bit more. I saw my best season in 12 years last year training with KAIN PERFORMANCE. I feel that the combination of great coaching and solid group workouts pushed me and everyone on the team to achieve peak performance."

Prior to joining Kain Performance, I had competed in a handful of triathlons (mostly sprint triathlons) for fun and as a part of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training. The limited training I was doing was something I did alone when I could find the time, and it seemed to work OK for me.
So I showed up at one of the first Kain workouts of 2003 interested to see what Kain Performance was like, but not really expecting to stay a member for very long - I felt I didn't have time to devote to triathlon, especially not when driving home after the workouts took me nearly an hour.
However, after a couple of workouts I began to see significant improvement in my running, and I began to get more excited. After a few more workouts, I started discussing ambitious plans with Pete and Shari - I had a crazt goal to try to qualify and compete at the triathlon world championships to be held in New Zealand in December 2003.
Pete and Shari convinced me that my plan wasn't that absurd, and they helped me drive towards it... and I did qualify and compete as a member of team USA at the world championships in New Zealand.
Pete and Shari Kain have at hand an impressive body of knowledge and experience in triathlon and multisport. But more importantly, they represent that rare kind of coach that can help you really apply that knowledge to achieve your goals.
With that said, I've continued to drive over an hour to get to Kain Performance workouts not just because of those workouts and triathlon knowledge, but because of the group of people involved with Kain Performance. Quite simply, it's always fun - everyone knows each other, every workout is a good time, and the "special events" we do as a team - winter training trips to Tahoe to cross-country ski, spring trips to Santa Barbara, and of course all of the destination races - are something to really look forward to. And as Kain Performance has grown, that team dynamic has just gotten better and better.

I joined Kain Performance on a Sunday during a Labor Day weekend, back in 2003; I remember that day very well because we had a great swim and run workouts finishing up the day with one of the best parties I have ever been to, just ask Jody!!
I started doing triathlon back in 1993 and since then I've joined a few different Tri-clubs but when I came to Kain Performance, I found everything in one place; the best coaching, a great bunch of people with different backgrounds, a diverse variety of workouts year round with weekend training trips, team destination races and of course, lots and lots of fun.
Pete keeps a good balance for his training programs; be prepared for some serious training and racing but also be prepared for some even more serious FUN.
Personally, my training has improved so much that I think I'll have a shot to qualify for worlds this year.
The only problem training with Kain Performance could be that, after a while, you might not be "Street Legal" any more...

I have swam, biked, and ran since I was in high school and always wanted to do a triathlon, but nothing motivated me to join a team until I saw the coolest triathlon jerseys while doing the bike and run in the co-ed relay at the Santa Cruz Sentinel. It said, "No Kain, No Pain!" I joined in November and did my first triathlon, the Catalina Island Tri and even though I missed 3rd place by 11 seconds, I had a fun time because I was well prepared, so it was a very enjoyable experience. When it think of Kain Performance, I think Fun, Fun, Fun! The pain is not being trained, but with the Kain Group you actually enjoy the triathlon. Also, the parties, the bike rides, everything is great! A great opportunity to travel, meet people, exchange ideas, make new friends, a very positive experience! Even the KP Challenge was something I had wanted to do and it was actually fun and enjoyable. We definitely live in a great area for triathlon training and the Kain Group is a part of our community.

For years I competed in a variety of athletic events without a specific training regimen. In 2001 I decided to join Kain Performance to add structure to my workouts, as well as a fun group dynamic. Over the last few years with Kain I have honed my swimming, biking and running skills, and the efforts have paid off. Last summer I qualified for the US National Triathlon Championship and will return this year in hopes of representing Kain Performance at the 2005 World Championship in Hawaii. For me it was true - No Kain, No Gain!

I was bitten by the triathlon bug after a season with TNT. Since joining Kain Performance this summer, my swimming has really improved through practicing the assigned drills, listening to the technique stuff and having one-on-one sessions coached by Becky Gibbs Lavelle. The running economy workouts have helped me make significant improvements in speed, with new personal records for 400m, 800m and 1 mile. I really enjoy Pete and Shari's coaching style and approachability.

After several seasons with Team in Training, I joined Kain Performance earlier this year to step up my training. I have really noticed an improvement in my running. Pete and Shari are a great team, and you never know what to expect in terms of the workout. Pete can take a hard workout and make it one of the best workouts ever. The other team members provide a lot of energy and team spirit, and make me not want to miss a workout.

I consider myself blessed to have come across the sport of triathlon, and to have met Pete through TNT. Through my workouts with the 2 of you and the rest of the team, I have gained a whole new aspect on physical fitness and personal limitations. It's incredible to be surrounded by 2 coaches that aren't just world class athletes, but great people as well. For your influence & mentoring, I thank you.
